The Location
Sea Cliff is located on a former bowling green located adjacent to the Holbeck public car park, close to the Cleveland Way/England Coast Path Scarborough to Filey stretch. Sea Cliff will become GROW Scarborough’s permanent home and has been selected by North Yorkshire Public Health to pilot their new Community Grow Policy. It will demonstrate what’s possible when community-led food growing meets public health innovation, climate resilience, and inclusive design. We think Sea Cliff will respond directly to food insecurity, combat social isolation, health inequalities, and help tackle climate anxiety through one integrated space.
What Makes Sea Cliff Different
Sea Cliff is designed to operate entirely off-grid - no mains utilities, no reliance on conventional infrastructure, a practical demonstration of resilient, low-impact food growing.
Solar powered - Energy for lighting, workshops, and irrigation is generated on site.
Rainwater fed - A 30,000-litre harvesting system collects rainwater from the shelter roof, with capacity to grow, delivered in partnership with Yorkshire Water
Climate resilient - Proving that productive food growing can thrive and become less dependable as climate pressures increase.
